The title “The Eastside Wire” came with a project I had in mind. One day I, elaborately, developed the idea, under the influence of my professors at the time, to create something that in my mind fit into the exact criterion of that which is lacking in the mainstream publications of most city newspapers. I was a student, ideological, and I had a plan to start a publication, utilizing the resources of my very dear and talented friends to generate news and information relevant to and focused on the community east of Interstate-35 in Austin, Texas, whose voice remains to this day very much marginalized.
The project fell apart, the participants dropped off the map, and the funding fell through. Though my perceptions have changed, I remain resolved on the idea that a journalist serves no constituency and every community and neighborhood equally.
